Season of Lent

​

Martin Luther retained Lent as a valuable, voluntary season for focusing on the Passion of Christ, self-examination, and repentance, rather than a system of meritorious works.  He emphasized that Lenten disciplines, such as fasting and prayer, should cultivate spiritual growth and love for neighbors, focusing on the Gospel rather than earning salvation.
